Ingredient Notes
- Oreo Cookies: Use regular Oreos for the crust, reserving some for the topping. You can grind them with a food processor or use a rolling pin to crush them in a ziptop bag.
- Unsalted Butter: helps to bind the crust together.
- Granulated Sugar
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: Use Dutch-processed cocoa for this recipe.
- Cornstarch: Acts as a thickening agent, ensuring the pudding sets properly.
- Egg Yolks: Add richness and help thicken the pudding. They also contribute to a silky texture.
- Whole Milk: use whole milk for the creamiest pudding, but 2% works as well.
- Vanilla Extract: Enhances the chocolate flavor and adds depth to the pudding.
- Gummy Worms: add extra fun to the Oreo "dirt"!

- Smooth Pudding: Strain the cooked pudding through a fine-mesh sieve for a super smooth texture.
- Prevent Skin Formation: When chilling the cooked pudding, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming.
- Slicing: For clean slices, dip your knife in hot water and wipe it dry between cuts.
Recipe Substitutions
- Gluten-Free: Use gluten-free chocolate sandwich cookies for the crust.
- Dairy-Free: Substitute coconut milk for whole milk and use dairy-free butter.
Storage Tips
For longer storage, freeze the pie without the gummy worm topping for up to 1 month. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before serving. Store the pie covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
