I never really make fudge at home. It's usually found when my family visits quaint little towns for mini vacations. There is usually a gourmet confection shop where the boys want to try everything, including some fudge. When I started researching how easy it actually is to make fudge, I decided to try out this Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge recipe for our holiday treat boxes this year, and I'm so happy I did. It's the perfect little indulgent bite and so easy to make! The peanut butter swirl and flaky salt make it look like they came from one of those dreamy shops we love so much! This fudge is great paired with my Chocolate Covered Potato Chips , Pretzel Christmas Crack, and Chocolate Covered Graham Crackers for an easy holiday treat box.

Ingredients for chocolate peanut butter fudge on counter top.
    • Sweetened condensed milk: Makes the fudge creamy and sweet without any extra sugar.

    • Creamy peanut butter: Adds rich, nutty flavor and creates that gorgeous swirl topping.
    • Unsalted butter: A little butter helps smooth everything out and enhances the chocolate flavor.
    • Vanilla extract: Brings in delicious flavor!
    • Pinch of salt: Just enough to balance the sweetness. Also, some flaky or coarse salt for topping.

    • Microwave-safe bowls and silicone spatulas make this super smooth and easy to stir.
    • Stop microwaving once most of the chips are melted; the residual heat will finish the job.
    • For a cleaner swirl, warm the peanut butter just enough to drizzle smoothly.
    • Use a butter knife, skewer, or toothpick to swirl vertically for that signature look.
    • Refrigerate uncovered until firm, then cover for storage.

    Recipe Variations

    • Top with crushed pretzels or flaky sea salt for sweet & salty vibes.
    • Add a sprinkle of mini chocolate chips or holiday sprinkles after swirling.
    • Swirl in cookie butter or Nutella for a different flavor option.
    • Use white chocolate chips and swirl with peanut butter for a different look.

    Recipe Substitutions

    • Use almond butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter if you would like to swap out the peanut butter.
    • Swap semi-sweet chocolate chips with dark or milk chocolate for different sweetness levels.
    • If you’re out of butter, coconut oil works as a 1:1 substitute.

    Storage Tips

Store the fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. You can also freeze it for up to 2 months; place squares in a single layer, freeze, then transfer to a bag or container. Thaw overnight in the fridge before serving. These make amazing gifts and are perfect for cookie boxes or brunch boards!

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this fudge ahead of time?

Absolutely! This fudge is perfect for making ahead. Prepare it up to 2 weeks in advance and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to serve or gift it.

What’s the best way to slice the fudge cleanly?

For neat squares, use a sharp knife and run it under hot water, then dry it before each cut. Chilling the fudge thoroughly also helps get clean edges.

Can I freeze chocolate peanut butter fudge?

Yes! Freeze the cut fudge in a single layer, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container. Thaw in the fridge overnight before serving.

How do I fix fudge that turns out too soft?

It may need a longer chill time. Be sure to measure ingredients accurately, and let it chill at least 2 hours (or overnight) for the best texture.

There are so many things about this recipe that I love! The fact that it can be made in the microwave is perfectly easy during a busy holiday season. That peanut butter swirl is heavenly, and the salt on top of the fudge gives it an irresistible salty/sweet combination.
