What type of bread is best for French Toast?

Brioche bread is incredible for making French toast, it's rich and buttery and absorbs the custard perfectly, yielding French toast with a tender interior and crispy golden edges. I love Brioche because it's almost impossible for it to dry out as other breads can.

What is Brioche French toast made of?

Basic ingredients like Brioche bread, eggs, cream, vanilla, maple syrup or sugar, cinnamon, and salt, make the perfect Brioche French Toast recipe.

Is stale Brioche better for French toast?

Stale bread is always better for making French toast as it more readily absorbs the custard and holds up during cooking. Very fresh bread can lead to soggy French toast and is not advised.

    Expert Tips

    • This recipe is so simple the main thing to keep in mind is not to oversoak your bread with the custard mixture. Brioche is already delicate in texture and oversoaking will lead to soggy french toast.
    • Have an oven heated to 200 degrees to keep the French toast warm.
    • Leftovers can be kept in an airtight container and reheated in the microwave but they are SO good when they are freshly made!
    • You can buy pre-sliced bread for this recipe, I like a loaf so you can ensure that you can cut thick slices.
