Ingredient Notes
These Hershey Kiss Sugar Cookies are so easy to make with just a few simple ingredients:
- All-purpose flour - regular all-purpose flour is all you need for these pantry staple cookies! Also if you find your cookie dough a little on the wet side you can use a little more flour to get it to the right consistency.
- Baking Soda
- Salt - balances the sweetness of the sugar cookies. I always prefer adding salt to taste to my baking vs. using salted butter.
- Granulated sugar
- Unsalted butter - if you only have salted butter just omit the salt in the recipe.
- Egg
- Pure vanilla extract - you can also try almond extract for a fun change or half vanilla and half almond which is my personal favorite combination for sugar cookies!
- Milk (optional) - the milk will help to thin out your dough if you find it too stiff when mixing.
- Colored Sugar/Sprinkles for rolling - here's where you can let your creativity run wild! Choose any sanding sugars and sprinkles to your heart's content!
- 24 Hershey Kisses - I prefer the classic Hershey's kisses but feel free to try any of their yummy varieties!

Frequently Asked Questions
These sugar cookies with kisses can stay fresh for 4-5 days at room temperature in an airtight container.
Yes! Traditional blossom cookies usually contain peanut butter but you can use a shortbread, sugar cookie or even a chocolate cookie base for these cookies! All of the varieties are just as delicious as peanut butter blossoms but it's great to have options for allergies!
There are a couple of reasons why your Hershey Kiss cookies could turn out flat. One could be that your cookies are spreading if your kitchen is very warm or you are handling your dough for too long. To remedy this pop them in the fridge for 20-30 minutes to chill and then bake them. Also if your oven is too hot it could lead to flat cookies because your butter is melting too fast. You can either bake at a lower temperature or use convection.
Expert Tips
- This recipe doesn't require chilling but you absolutely can if you would like to.
- A helpful tip is to unwrap the Hershey Kisses beforehand so that you can easily press them into the cookies once they are out of the oven.
- If you would like to keep the Hershey Kisses soft on the cookies, you can add the cookies back into the oven for 30 seconds after placing the Hershey kisses on the cookies.
- The cookies will be soft when they come out of the oven and will firm up as they cool, so it's recommended to work on parchment paper.
- The yield will depend on the size of cookie scoop you use but you should get about 24 cookies.
- If the dough spreads too thin, it may be because it's too wet, which can be corrected by adding more flour before rolling or by chilling the dough.
- Make the dough ahead of time and store it in the fridge or freezer for up to 5 days and 3 months, respectively if desired.
- When baking, the edges of the cookies should turn golden brown, and the shine on the cookies should be gone to indicate that they are done.
