This Air Fryer Apple crisp has a delicious sweet, spicy, buttery topping with a touch of oats for a nice crisp against warm tangy apples bursting with all the fall flavors!
4tablespoonsunsalted buttercut into small cubes and room temperature
Filling:
3Granny Smith applespeeled and diced
1tablespooncornstarch
1tablespoonfresh lemon juice
½tablespoonvanilla extract
Pinchof kosher salt
1tablespoonbrown sugarmore if you like the apples sweeter
½teaspooncinnamon
Vanilla ice creamfor serving
Instructions
Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees.
Core and chop the apples into bite-sized pieces on a cutting board, and add them to an oven-safe dish that fits in your air fryer (a 5-inch Ramekin works well).
In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract to create a slurry.
Pour the slurry over the apples, and add the cinnamon, brown sugar, and salt. Stir everything together until the apples are evenly coated.
In a medium shallow bowl, combine all the topping ingredients using a fork or pastry blender. It's okay if there are still little chunks of butter, just be sure all the flour is incorporated.
Pour the topping mixture over the apples and pat down to form a secure crust so the topping doesn't fly all around the air fryer.
Bake for 15 minutes at 370 degrees or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are softened.
Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream!
Notes
Use a small oven-safe dish that fits in your air fryer for an evenly cooked apple crisp.
Be sure to mix the slurry well to ensure that the cornstarch is evenly distributed throughout the filling.
Don't overmix the topping mixture. It's okay if there are still little chunks of butter, just be sure all the flour is incorporated.
If you want a sweeter apple crisp, add more brown sugar to the filling.
